  • Sharon working her core hard with a “Russian Twist”
  • An early start for Sean on the Cross Trainer
  • No he’s awake, Sean is making the Arm Crank Cycle a blur
  • Always with a smile on her face, Debs hits the wave while looking out over the golf course
  • Matt teaming up a “Plank” with the PowerPlate
  • Matt using the PowerPlate to put even more emphasis on the Squat
  • I don’t think he’s going to shift it, but Matt’s trying it with a bent over row, combined with the PowerPlate

Summary

The aim of the KMFM/LB Boot camp was to take 4 KMFM listeners, help them select goals and try to achieve them.  The four candidates, Sean, Matt, Debs and Sharon, all had individual inductions and goal setting sessions.  In all cases they were trying to lose weight, but had other personal, secondary aims.  These ranged from using fitness as a means to help them quit smoking to being more energised in the work place and being able to keep up with others on a family activity holiday.
An initial step after goal setting was a fitness test, taking into account body, cardio vascular, composition and blood measurements.  These would be used as a datum, and re-visited half way through and at the completion of the 4 week boot camp.  Throughout training, all candidates used the first beat monitoring system to help achieve maximum performance.
From a media and awareness point of view, as many areas and aspects to the club were used to try and maximise the experience.  Classes were offered to all participants, but in cases where other commitments were paramount classes were performed on a 1 to 1 basis, again allowing the full London Beach experience.

Sessions ranged from

Cardio Vascular  Treadmills, bikes, cross trainers and the cardio wave
Resistance     Fixed equipment, dumbbells or own body weight
PowerPlate   Gravity and acceleration training via the powerplate
Kinesis Wall    Utilising 4 stations of the kinesis wall
Classes      Studio/pool based on group fitness

Candidates undertook 2 sessions per week throughout the 4 weeks, each tailored to individual needs and fitness/strength level.  Outside of these pre-arranged sessions, use of the pool and other areas of the club was encouraged.
After 4 weeks a final fitness re-test was undertaken to help determine a winner.  The competition was not run on a “biggest loser” theme.  Other considerations included usage outside of sessions, adherence to a training program and who had had the biggest change towards exercise taking into account external factors.
